Questions & Answers

Have a Question?

Ask a Question
  • Will Medicare pay for part of this wheelchair

Hi Bill, I'm not sure how accurate my information or research is but from what I'm hearing is that it is very very difficult to get a power chair or mobility scooter covered by Medicare, the coverage and determination guidelines are actually 20 pages long. To give you an idea of comparison the coverage and determination guidelines for a hospital bed is 1 page long. And from what I heard it also can be a pretty long process like 90 days minimum. You have to prove to them why a cane won't work, then why a walker won't work, then why a manual wheelchair won't work etc.... and on and on. Then in the event that you do get the coverage they only have a small selection of products to choose from and they are usually low budget, low quality, bottom bare bones base models. So I don't think the Robooter would be something that would fit their creteria as it is a high end model. It is also a new model that just came out on the market and it is still awaiting "FDA" approval to be advertised as and considered a "medical device" to be eligible for any type of insurance coverage.

    Thank you
